I would like to share with everyone an exciting project my physical education students and I have been working on this semester at Liberty University. This project is intended to be a free resource that schools and teachers can utilize to help with some of the changes during this current academic year. For many school divisions, due to Covid19 modifications, physical education time has been reduced, eliminated, or the teacher has been reassigned leaving core teachers with the task of providing fitness breaks and/or physical education for their students. The resource we created is a website where teachers will have access to a library of short 5-15 minute fitness, movement, and physical education videos. Many of these videos can be done within a classroom setting through the use of a projector, a Smart Board or at home for those learning virtually making short fitness breaks simple to do. Research has shown that including some level of fitness, recess or physical education within a normal school routine has proven to decrease stress, increase attention span and improve cognitive performance. We plan to continue to increase the websites video library and even create more sport related activities that can be done in the gym.
During these challenging and unpredictable times, I personally believe it is up to us all to rally together and support one another for the benefit of the students who will be our future leaders. This is why we are providing this resource for free. I hope you will share this resource with all the teachers in your school division and with the parents of those students learning virtually.
My only request is if your school plans to use or share the website with your teachers or parents please email me at: firstname.lastname@example.org just so we can keep track of how many schools and how far of an impact we can make through this initiative.
