Hi my name is James and and I am a first year student studying health and physical education at Plymouth State University. My first thought about this year is that it is a lot more complex than I thought it would be. The high school I went to  was full of “gym” teachers that rolled out the basketballs at the beginning of class and collected them at the end. I feel that Plymouth is doing a good job of preparing me to become a effective and skillful educator.

    Hi James!

Sadly, we still have far too many unmotivated equipment managers in our profession. It only takes a few to ruin the reputation of the many. I’m happy to say, in my experience there are far more highly dedicated, talented and professional P.E. teachers than the other way around. I like to say the gym is a place of teaching and learning. The tools and techniques may look and sound different than the classroom, but the expectation for learning is obvious. Great teachers hold themselves and their students to high standards. Be the positive role model that lifts our profession in the eyes of future generations! Good luck with your studies!
